European travel began its slow return to normal this summer, with hoards of travelers, including Americans, taking advantage of cheaper than usual flights across the pond. Though summer 2022 is in the distant future, Delta Air Lines plans to meet the pent-up travel demand with expanded flight service to Europe.

The airline will add up to 73 daily flights to 25 destinations in Europe, departing from 10 cities in the United States. This expansion will increase Delta’s European summer 2022 schedule by 90% compared to this year’s operations.

The additions to Delta’s service also mean that the airline will offer the most transatlantic flights from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport and Boston. That includes up to 29 daily flights to 23 European destinations, departing from New York alone.

The summer 2022 expansion will also include resuming service on several routes affected by the pandemic, like daily flights from New York to Zurich and nonstop service to Frankfurt. The airline also plans to increase the frequency of flights to major European cities such as London, Milan, Amsterdam, and Rome.

For travelers flying from Boston, they’ll find two new Delta routes launching over Memorial Day weekend: Athens and Tel Aviv.

“We’re focused on bringing back the routes and destinations our customers love. We can enjoy easy, convenient access to a comprehensive, far-reaching network throughout Europe and its neighboring regions,” said Joe Esposito, Delta’s senior vice president of network planning, in a statement. “With the lifting of restrictions to the U.S. and abroad, plus growing vaccination rates and tremendous pent-up demand, travel to Europe is expected to surge next summer—and Delta customers are assured to enjoy every moment from curb to claim.”

Besides the expanded flight service to Europe, Delta will also ensure passengers get their comfort with each of its European flights offering Delta Premium Select (a premium economy cabin) and recently redesigned bathrooms.
